My Podcast Picks
Tired of folding laundry in silence? Need something to drown out the monotonous hum of the vacuum? Or maybe you just need a little bit of audio goodness to get you through organizing your craft closet (again).
If you know me, you know I’m a big supporter of getting your groove on while cleaning or decluttering! Music can help you find motivation to keep pushing through those big projects. But what about when music isn’t cutting it?
I’ve been pretty vocal about how I love a good audiobook to listen to while I do those auto-pilot tasks like folding laundry or doing the dishes, but audible isn’t the only thing I subscribe to! Podcasts have made their way into my routine and I couldn’t be happier about it.
I listen to so many Podcasts that I can’t believe I haven’t already shared some of them with you! I’m going to rectify that and break down my top Podcast picks full of motivational podcasts to keep you moving forward and your brain stimulated!
If you’d rather get yourself in the audio-medium mood and listen to me talk about my favorite podcasts, check out my latest video below.
WHAT IS A PODCAST?
Podcasts are similar to radio shows. They’re an audio medium and each show is based on a specific topic or theme. You subscribe to the shows you want to listen to and they’re completely free! Podcast episodes can be streamed over the internet or downloaded to your device for easy offline listening.
HOW TO LISTEN TO PODCASTS
Podcasts can be listened to on a podcast app, often referred to as Podcatchers (Funny name, right?) Your smart phone most likely came with a podcast app (Apple Podcasts for Apple products or Google Podcasts for Android devices) but there are a ton of great third party apps! A lot of the apps offer different features, like strong search capability, the ability to speed up the audio, and some even have an Alexa skill!
There are so many Podcatcher options, but here are a couple of the highest ranking apps out there to get started:
- Podcast App (Apple)
- Google Podcasts (android)
- Spotify
- Radio Public
- PodBean
- Pocket Casts
- Overcast
MY PODCAST RECOMMENDATIONS
If I could only have one podcast to listen to, it would be this one. I absolutely love listening to How I Built This and could honestly listen to it all day. In this podcast, Guy Raz interviews the founders and creators of big, successful businesses and asks them all about how their business came to be.
I love the honesty that’s in these episodes! If there’s ever a controversy or issue, Guy Raz will bring it up in the interview and I am so intrigued by those hard questions! You also get to hear the story firsthand from the business owners and it’s simply amazing how different all these stories are. Seriously, you won’t believe some of these stories!
Every episode ends with Guy Raz asking the interviewee, “how much of your success was luck and how much of it was hard work?” Hearing people answer this question is my favorite part of the Podcast! Definitely worth the listen!
Young House Love Has a Podcast
This podcast makes my list because it’s one of the most lighthearted podcasts I’ve heard that still remains engaging and interesting. Most of the episodes are just the couple from Young House Love talking about what’s going on in their lives, what they’re working on, or about their current remodel projects. Occasionally, they will have some people on to interview, but it’s mostly the two of them talking together. It’s so quirky and fun and brings a bright spot to my day!
A little fun fact about me: I listen to most things (audiobooks, podcasts, etc) on double speed. I can comprehend content quickly and I just love the option to speed up the content. However, this is one podcast I don’t speed up! Since it’s a go-to when I need something uplifting, I listen to it at regular speed to soak up as much happiness as I can.
Brilliant Business Moms with Beth Anne Schwamberger
Brilliant Business Moms is all about Anne Schwamberger interviewing, just what you’d expect, moms who are also business owners. Some of the interviewees have a business they do on the side or part time while others are full time and I love the variety of stories loaded into these episodes.
Brilliant Business Moms is so interesting to listen to because there isn’t a set structure or list of questions Anne asks the moms she interviews. Instead, she talks about specific and general topics and ideas that fit who she is interviewing. Every episode is different and I love that variety!
The only complaint I have with Brilliant Business Moms is that it’s a little inconsistent. There’s a few seasons of episodes out, but occasionally she will go a long time between episodes. Most podcasts have a set schedule (such as weekly or monthly episodes) but this one seems a little more sporadic.
The Crystal Paine Show is a podcast, obviously, by Crystal Paine, who is most known for her blog called Money Saving Mom. Her show is not really about saving money, it is really about everything! She occasionally has her husband on the show with her and it’s another one of those feel-good, lighthearted shows that I just love.
The whole idea behind Ruth’s work is about facing your fears and doing things even though it may scare you. She has a book by the same title and I absolutely love this mantra. Her podcast is an interview show where she talks to people who have done something brave or great and she asks them all about how they did it, why they did it, and how they pushed past that fear. This show is inspiring!
There you have it! My top 5 podcasts that I listen to on a regular basis. I love all these shows and podcasts are something I could always use more of, so tell me your favorite shows in the comments! And if you can’t wait to try some of these podcasts out, now is the perfect time to grab some headphones and start listening!
