My One Word 2013
I’m excited to announce that I’m joining the one word bandwagon in 2013!
What is this one word thing? I think www.oneword365.com sums it up pretty well:
Forget New Year’s Resolutions. Scrap that long list of goals you won’t remember three weeks from now anyway. Choose just one word.
One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long.
It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your word will shape you and your year. It will guide your decisions and help you grow.
Discover the big impact one word can make.
I must admit, when I first heard everybody talking about their “one word” about this time last year, I thought it was a bit silly! I didn’t really see how picking a word would help anything, and I thought traditional goals were the way to go (despite the fact that I haven’t followed through on too many traditional goals).
However, I ended up unofficially having word/theme last year, and it worked wonders for me! Near the beginning of 2012 I decided I’d had enough of letting my fears and my tiny little comfort zone keep me from the things I should be doing. I was going to do my best to kick fear to the curb, and I did! No matter what other things I did or didn’t do, I just kept that thought in my mind as much as possible and lived it out.
Therefore, I decided it was time that I do it officially this year! I love the word I picked:
It was a bit tough to choose my word. I was torn among relentless, persevere, good enough, and the word I ultimately chose: persevere. When I looked at the definition and synonyms of persist, I immediately knew it was the word for me this year!
I want to focus on keeping on keeping on no matter what. I give up way too easily, especially when things are going so well. I did choose an area of focus for each month, but inherent in the nature of the persistence, it does not mean I will neglect other areas.
This is a page from my Project Life album for this year, which I’m doing digitally:
I’ll complete the other side of the spread soon with Nov through Dec and a couple other things. Each month, I’ll be setting some more specific goals and thinking back on how I did the previous month.
The cute button was made by Melanie from www.OnlyABreath.com, and she’d be happy to make you one too (for free)!
Do you have one word for the year? Did you set any resolutions or goals this year? Please share in the comments.

Love your choice of word, Laura! How many times have I given up in defeat, rather than persisted? You never know – victory may be just beyond the horizon. 🙂 Best wishes to you this year.
Oh, my word is “create.”

My word is peace. I’ve been in the midst of much turmoil over the last 3-4 years and I’ve blamed my lack of peace on those around me. This year I decided I need to find that peace in God and within myself and hopefully it will have a positive affect on those around me as well.
