22 Tiny Tasks You Can Actually Do in Under 2 Minutes
Have you ever put something off for weeks, convinced it was going to take forever, only to finally do it and realize it took less than a minute?
That happened to me recently. I had been putting off a small task for more than three weeks, and when I finally timed it, it took exactly 38 seconds. It was such a good reminder that our brains are often terrible at estimating how long small tasks actually take. We tend to lump them into the category of “I'll do it later,” even though many of them can be knocked out in less time than it takes to scroll social media or wait for your coffee to brew.
That's why I love keeping a list of tiny tasks. They're perfect when you only have a couple of minutes, they're great for building momentum, and they help prevent little jobs from turning into overwhelming ones. Here are 22 simple tasks you can tackle in two minutes or less.
1. Wipe Down One Bathroom Sink
Forget cleaning the entire bathroom. Just wipe down the sink and countertop. It's amazing how much cleaner the whole room feels after spending a minute on this one small area. While I was doing mine, I even cleaned a tray that had been bothering me for weeks, and the entire task only took about a minute.
2. Clear Off Your Bedside Table
Nightstands seem to attract clutter faster than almost anywhere else in the house. A few books, receipts, water bottles, or random odds and ends can quickly make the space feel messy. Clearing mine only took 34 seconds, and the visual difference was much bigger than I expected.
3. Delete 10 Emails
Don't try to conquer your entire inbox. Just delete ten emails. While you're there, unsubscribe from one mailing list you no longer read. You can even do this while you're waiting in line or sitting in the car before an appointment.
4. Empty One Trash Can
This is what I call a domino task. When the trash gets full, I start stacking things beside it instead of throwing them away. Suddenly the whole area looks messy. Just don't forget the most important part. The job isn't finished until you've put a fresh liner back in the can.
5. Put Away Shoes
You know that spot where everyone kicks off their shoes? Take a minute to actually put them where they belong. Whether they're sitting by the front door or right outside the shoe cubby, getting them all the way put away instantly makes the entryway feel tidier.
6. Send That Text You've Been Meaning to Send
Not every tiny task has to involve cleaning.

Think of someone you've been meaning to check on, thank, or encourage. Send the text. It only takes a few seconds, but it can make someone's entire day.
7. Clean Your Phone
Your phone is something you use constantly, yet it's easy to forget how dirty it gets. Take a minute to wipe down the screen, the back, and even the inside of the case. It's quick, satisfying, and something you'll appreciate every time you pick it up.
8. Declutter Three to Five Items
Decluttering doesn't have to be an all-day project. Open one drawer, grab a few obvious pieces of trash or items you no longer need, and let them go. If you're working through something larger that requires more thought, even decluttering one item is progress.
9. Vacuum One High-Traffic Area
Instead of pulling out the vacuum with the expectation of cleaning the entire house, just vacuum one space. The entryway, kitchen, or hallway where everyone walks can make a huge visual impact in under two minutes.
10. Cancel One Subscription
Take a quick look through your subscriptions, especially the ones tied to your phone or app store. You might discover something you're paying for that you completely forgot about. This tiny task can actually save you money.
11. Wipe Down the Washer and Dryer
Dust and lint collect surprisingly fast on laundry appliances. A quick dusting followed by a damp cloth can make the whole laundry room feel fresher, and it takes barely over a minute.
12. Replace That Burned-Out Light Bulb
If you've been walking past the same burned-out bulb for weeks or months, today is the day.

Even with tall ceilings and a ladder, this job took less than two minutes. It's one of those tasks that feels much bigger than it really is.
13. Refill a Prescription or Supplement
Life admin counts too. If you're getting close to running out of something you use regularly, take a minute to reorder it or set up Subscribe & Save. Future you will be glad you did.
14. Delete Blurry or Duplicate Photos
Open your camera roll and see how many photos you can delete in two minutes. You might be surprised how many duplicates, screenshots, or blurry pictures you no longer need. It's an easy task you can do almost anywhere.
15. Restock Toilet Paper
Make sure every bathroom has an extra roll available. It only takes a few seconds, but it's one of those small tasks that prevents future frustration, especially if you have guests.
16. Write Down Three Things You're Grateful For
Sometimes the best two-minute task isn't about your house at all. Taking a minute to write down three things you're thankful for can completely shift your perspective. I was surprised by how quickly those thoughts came to mind and how much better I felt afterward.
17. Wipe Down One Kitchen Counter
Instead of trying to clean the entire kitchen, focus on one section of countertop. Pull everything off, wipe underneath it, and enjoy having one sparkling clean space. It often motivates you to keep going.
18. Clean Part of the Microwave
If cleaning the entire microwave feels overwhelming, break it into smaller jobs.
Maybe today you wipe down the tray. Another day you clean the door. Another day you tackle the inside walls. Small progress still counts.
19. Change Batteries
Whether it's a timer, remote, smoke detector, or another device that's been warning you for days, go ahead and replace the batteries. It's one of those little annoyances that's easy to ignore until you realize it only takes about a minute to fix.
20. Dust One Shelf
Dusting doesn't have to mean doing the whole house. Choose one shelf, one end table, or one bookcase. Giving yourself permission to do “good enough” instead of perfect makes this task much easier to start.
21. Empty the Vacuum Canister
A full vacuum doesn't clean as well. Emptying the canister takes less than a minute and helps your vacuum perform better the next time you use it.
22. Clean One Refrigerator Shelf or Drawer
Cleaning the entire refrigerator sounds exhausting. Cleaning one drawer? That's completely manageable.
Take everything out, vacuum the crumbs if needed, wipe it down, and put everything back. Even if you only tackle one section at a time, you'll eventually have a completely clean refrigerator without ever dedicating an entire afternoon to it.
Small Tasks Create Big Momentum
One of the biggest reasons we procrastinate is because we imagine every task taking far longer than it actually will. But when you start timing yourself, you realize that many of those little jobs you've been avoiding can be finished before the microwave beeps or your coffee finishes brewing.
Instead of waiting for the perfect day to catch up on everything, pick five tiny tasks. You'll spend less than ten minutes, but you'll have five fewer things hanging over your head. Those small wins build momentum, and momentum often leads to getting even more done.
If you're looking for even more ideas, I also have a free list of more than 400 tiny tasks organized by category so you'll always have something quick to tackle whenever you have a few spare minutes.
