Transform Your Wardrobe featuring Corina from Frump Fighters
You know those days when you feel like you're superwoman going around energetically checking things off your to do list? Those kind of days always start with a pair of clothes that make me feel nice and put together. I know it can be tempting to stay in pajamas, but that’s a quick way to turn a lazy Saturday morning into a lazy Saturday.
But if you’re anything like me, you might feel a bit overwhelmed when you look in your closet. Questions like: “Where do I even start?” and “What if I don’t actually like any of the clothes that I own?” may be swirling around in your head. Trust me, I was right there with you!
Recently I interviewed Corina, creator of Frump Fighters. Once upon a time, Corina was also struggling to love her wardrobe and to figure out how to dress her best. That’s where the idea for Frump Fighters was born. Corina’s basic goal is to help moms create a wardrobe that makes them look and feel great with minimal effort and expense. I just love her advice, and she has tremendous resources to help out as well. You can watch the full interview here, or keep reading to catch some of her best tips!
How You Dress is How You Show Up
One thing that Corina emphasizes is how you dress is how you show up. If you want to show up to be relaxed, dress in a relaxed way. If you want to show up to be productive, dress like it! Bottom line is: be intentional about how you dress. It’s so simple, yet so true!
Start by Decluttering
So where do you start? The first step is to declutter your closet. As you look through each item of clothing, ask this one question: “Do I like it?” Imagine if you actually liked everything in your closet! Getting dressed would be so much easier because you would feel great no matter what you picked!
Decluttering your closet will also make it easier to fill in the gaps when shopping. You know that one style of shirt from Target that you like so much you keep buying it in different colors? That’s great, but maybe once you declutter your closet, you’ll realize you could actually benefit from a few more jackets, or pairs of pants.
Pick a Color Scheme
Once you discover what types of items you need more of, then you’re ready to pick a color scheme. Now, I’ll be honest, I do not think I have a great eye for color. If you feel the same way, you’re not alone! Corina recommends starting with some neutrals (gray, black, white, tan), then starting to pull in a color or two that you really love. Another great tip is to look at a patterned piece of clothing that you love. Pick out a few colors from that item – it’s a ready-made color scheme!
I used to think it was better to have the full rainbow of colors in my closet, but that’s really not true. If you love blue, it’s ok to own mostly blue! Maybe that’s the color that looks best on you anyway! Don’t feel required to fill in the gaps of color.
Wardrobe Formulas
Once your closet is full of items you like, this is where you can start to plan out (and literally write down!) your wardrobe formulas. What combinations of clothing items and accessories can you mix and match to make an outfit? This is where Corina’s resources are so, so helpful. Personally I keep The Year-Round Outfit Guide for Moms in my closet and can reference it to see what combinations of outfit pieces I can put together. I just love how this book includes pictures of multiple different real-life moms wearing the outfits so I can see how they look on people of varying ages and body types.
And if you REALLY want to take the decision-making out of it for yourself, Corina also offers The What-to-Wear Outfit Calendar, which literally shows you what outfits to wear for each day of the year!
Work in Progress
It is totally fine if your closet is not transformed overnight. Just getting started and taking a few steps can make a big difference though. Then, as your tastes change and evolve, so can your wardrobe! Remember, this doesn’t have to be rocket science! Check out Corina’s great resources to help you get started. Use the code ‘IHP’ for a 15% discount. But hurry! This code is good until January 31st, 2021.
Thanks Corina! I just love what you’re doing to help moms everywhere look and feel their best.
