Some of the biggest changes happen when we change our clothes – that may sound a little dramatic, but maybe this Stitch Fix review will change your mind!

You know those days when you feel like you're superwoman going around energetically checking things off your to do list? Those kind of days always start with a pair of clothes that make me feel nice and put together. I know it can be tempting to stay in pajamas, but that’s a quick way to turn a lazy Saturday morning into a lazy Saturday. 

There’s just something about putting my look together (even if it’s just an extra 5 or 10 minutes) that makes me feel like I can take on the world. Have you noticed the same thing?

When I started noticing that the way I dressed affected my productivity level, I knew I needed clothes that fit me well, were comfortable, and looked nice on me. Several weeks after my second child was born, as I was getting ready one morning, I realized that I literally had no clothes that I actually loved. Every piece I owned was at best “just okay.”

I had many items that I didn't think were very pretty, that didn't fit well at all, or that simply weren’t my style.

I kept thinking I would invest in better clothing someday. Maybe when I lost the baby weight, or when I had more money, or any other excuse I could come up with. I needed to stop waiting for the perfect time (does the perfect time even exist?)  and start getting clothes that I felt good in. I had an infant and 1 year old at the time, so I knew trying on clothes in the store wasn't a great fit for me. So, that very day, I did some online shopping and signed up for some clothing subscription boxes.

It was a huge learning experience for me as I found out what I like and don't like. Turns out I like bright colors, florals, black and white, animal prints, dresses, and skirts – who knew? I literally had NEVER worn animal print before that and very rarely wore dresses. Most days were jeans or black dress pants (leftover from my career days) and a baggy knit shirt. Since then, I've taken various courses and read books on how to dress well, and those definitely helped, but there's no substitute for trial and error. The more clothes you try on, the more likely you are to find some you like.

Stitch Fix Review Step One: Style Profile

You fill out a style profile that asks you a bunch of questions about what clothing you like and what you want to avoid. They’ll ask you everything from prints to colors to how clothes tend to fit you. They really do their homework to try and find something that works for you! Sitch Fix offers a wide range of sizes for men, women, and children so it’s good for all body types. They also have maternity and petite options. Not to mention, it’s not just clothes! You can indicate on your style profile if you’d like to get jewelry, bags, and other accessories. It’s your one stop shop to a new wardrobe!

Stitch Fix Review Step Two: Order

You request a “fix” whenever you want it. Their most popular choice is a box sent every two months, but it’s easy to adjust and cancel your boxes. You can request one as frequently or infrequently as you'd like. Once your order is placed, your stylist chooses 5 items for you based on your style profile  and they arrive in the mail just a few days later. 

Stitch Fix Review Step Three: Try It and Buy It (Or Send it Back!)

Once your box arrives, you can immediately unpack your box and start trying on the new items! No more store changing rooms – you can try on new clothes from the comfort of your own home. 

Check out is so easy on the app or on their website. All you do is indicate the items you’re keeping and what you’re sending back. Send back anything you don't want in the prepaid shipping envelope that comes in your box that you can just stick in your mailbox. 

The best part about this is that if you don’t like any of your items, all you only pay a $20 styling fee. If you purchase even a single item from your box, no more styling fee! And there’s even more – if you keep all 5 items, you get 25% off your entire box! There is no charge for shipping to you or sending back what you don't keep.

Stitch Fix Review: My Favorite Pros

Try it at Home: I love trying things out in my own home with normal lighting. I can easily see how the item looks on me and how it can go with other items already in my closet. When I use my own closet as a fitting room, my choices are more informed and I’m confident in them.

Easy to Use: I LOVE how easy it is to send back what you don't want. I hate that when I order from a regular store online, I have to find a box, print a shipping label, tape it up, and take it somewhere to mail. With this, they send you a really thin but large and sturdy envelope with the shipping label already on it. It's self sealing – you just peel off the sticker cover and close it up. Then it slides right into your mailbox. You don't actually have to go anywhere to mail it.

Something for Everyone: They offer pretty much all sizes (including plus sizes and maternity), so everyone can use it. You can even get boxes for men or children. My husband has used it and was very happy with it. I haven't tried the kids' boxes yet but they look really fun.

Stitch Fix Review: A Couple Pointers…

• Use the rating tool on their app. Each day you can go on their app, and they'll show you several items of clothing. You give each item a thumbs up or a thumbs down. This will REALLY help your fix be more personalized to you. Also, ONLY give an item a thumbs up if you would love to see that exact thing in your next fix. I used to thumbs up things that I almost liked but would prefer a different color or something – then it would show up in my fix. I realized I need to be really picky with my ratings.
• Update your style profile regularly as your taste changes.
• Give very specific feedback and notes to your stylist. Don't be shy here because that's how they know what you do and don't like.
• ONLY keep something if you truly LOVE it.
• Don't feel guilty if you send an entire fix back. I've done that once because I just didn't love anything enough to keep it.
