Secrets of Clutter-Free Home
Does clutter keep finding it’s way back to you? You work hard, get rid of clutter, only to be drowning in stuff a few months later. I know the feeling!
Fortunately, I found some things that really help with not just getting your home organized and clutter free, but KEEPING it that way.
- Make it easy to get rid of things. It should be so easy to get rid of things you don’t need that you can’t help but do it. Keep a basket or bin in each room for things that you want to donate. You could have a small bin in a basket or drawer or under the bed. Also, if you have a garage, that’s a good place to keep a box ready for donations.
- Get it out as soon as possible. When you do fill up those boxes and bins, send the items to a new home as soon as possible.
- Call for a pick up. If you really want to make sure the decluttering happens, many donation centers will let you schedule a pick up. If you want to stay really on top of it, schedule a pick up once or twice a year. If you don’t actually schedule them to come to your house, at least pick two times a year that you’re going to drop off donations, and put it on your calendar.
- Take it to your car. It will be far easier to drop off donations if they’re in your car.
- Don’t bring it in. The easiest way to avoid clutter is just not to bring it into your house. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s so worth it. Carefully evaluate purchases. Don’t buy something just because it’s a good deal.
- Get rid of things quickly. Don’t feel guilty about getting rid of things right away. A regular piece of your child’s artwork? Take a photo and then get rid of it. Don’t put it somewhere for a year or two and then get rid of it.
