Planner Peek: Elissa
I am so excited to bring you another installment in the Planner Peek series! I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE being able to sneak a peek inside other people’s planners. I love to see how they use them, how they decorate them, what type of planner they use, etc. I have asked my readers to submit photos of their planners and to tell us a bit about how they use their planning system. (You can submit your planner by filling out this really short and easy form. If you’re selected, you’ll get a free copy of the digital Sweet Life Planner worth $35!) All of the Planner Peeks in this series have been so fun to see.
Elissa's planner is the FlyLady calendar. Elissa loves it primarily because it's purple, and also because of the GIANT spaces for each day. Elissa also loves the fact that she can keep it in a visible place. She says that, “If I were to have a smaller planner that closes, I would not look at it; I need to have it right in front of me! I have used this as a planner every year for 7 years now.”
It is the only thing Elissa keeps on her refrigerator (which is passed many, many times a day) and it helps the whole family keep track of meetings, games, events, appointments, and celebrations. Her two daughters (ages 10 & almost 8) are always looking at the calendar to see what it coming up in the family. Elissa has also found that it is a great conversation starter to have the whole family involved and sometimes her girls will notice gaps in the calendar and suggest they call up friends or family to make plans! This makes me smile.
She uses different colors of PaperMate Flair pens and generally each person has their own color so you can tell at a glance who has what going on. She keeps the pens in a magnetized container at the top of the calendar for easy access. Since Elissa likes to doodle, she decorates little images for big birthdays or holidays. Sometimes she even puts inspirational quotes and messages on the month from ideas she has seen on blogs around the web.
Life is unpredictable though, so for those times that Elissa has to “delete” something off of the calendar, she uses either White-Out or correction tape so she does not have to cross out anything. She also uses a slash each day to show the month's progress but so you can still see what's underneath in case she needs the details for reference. There is also an opening on the back of the planner that Elissa can slip papers into; keep invitations, permission slips, and other important planner papers until the date has passed (when they promptly get thrown away!).
I just love so many things about Elissa's FlyLady Calendar from how she has it visible to the whole family to how she keeps track of important papers in the back pocket of the calendar, to how attractive she has made it with her use of color, doodles and inspirational quotes. Here is a complete look at her planner that you can pin.
I just love taking these planner peek tours. For even more inspiration with your planner, check out all the Planner Peeks in this series.
