Do You Have to Hustle?
Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of conflicting thoughts and advice about the concept of hustling to create a successful business. Is hustle good or bad? What does “hustle” even mean?
To me “hustling” simply means working super hard and making sacrifices to meet a goal or fulfill a dream. On the surface this sounds like a pretty good thing, right? Hard work is good for us, and it usually pays off majorly in the long run. Also, there are very few highly successful online entrepreneurs who were able to get there without quite a bit of serious hustle, so some form of pretty hard work is pretty much essential to creating a thriving business.
However, I’ve heard several entrepreneurs recently taking about how “hustling” is a bad thing. We can get SO caught up in always working like crazy on our business that we neglect our health, families, and other priorities. Not only that, but it’s never enough. There’s always more we could be doing, another post to write, another amazing new product idea that we can’t wait to introduce, another person to connect with, more e-mails to answer, etc. It can be exhausting, overwhelming, and can leave us feeling like we’re never done. And what’s the point of all the hard work if we don’t have time to slow down and enjoy it?
So, that begs the question. Is “hustle” good or bad? Is it essential to work like crazy the first couple years of establishing your business to get it off the ground? Is there another way?
This is such a big question that doesn’t have a very black and white answer, so I thought I’d share my honest thoughts about it via video. It’s too much to convey in simple written words.
