6 Designated Spaces You NEED in Your Home
If you had to name one key idea to staying organized and clutter-free, what would it be? Well, if you’ve been around here for long at all, you probably already know what I’m going to say: Everything needs a place! When you give everything a place, it drastically lessens the likelihood of clutter.
In this video, I am walking you through 6 things that need a place in your home. If you find a place for these 6 things, it will save you a lot of time and headache, and just make your household run more smoothly overall! Check it out.
1 – Family Calendar
Whether you have a large family or you live by yourself, having a calendar posted somewhere visible is huge when it comes to keeping yourself organized. I keep mine on my 1Thrive system, and I check it often! I know exactly when everyone’s appointments are, who is going to be where, and when. Even if you don’t have a lot of appointments to keep track of, sometimes it’s helpful just to keep track of what day of the month it is!
You may also use a digital calendar, and that’s great. I also do that so that I can see our schedule when I’m on the go, but there’s just something about a physical calendar and seeing it right in front of me that can’t be beat.
2 – Meal Plan
If you’re not in the habit already, I highly recommend making a meal plan every week. Check out this blog post if you need some help getting started with that! Once you have a meal plan, now you need a place to post it in your home. Once again, ours goes onto my 1Thrive system. This keeps everyone (even my 6-year-old) from having to ask what’s for dinner, and it even might encourage others in the family to start pitching in if they know what’s coming!
3 – Paper Inbox
One of the number one types of clutter that takes over clean surfaces is paper. Having a paper inbox is such a simple solution that solves this problem. You may even want two inboxes (such as one for mail and one for school) or whatever works best for your family! But having a place for it to go keeps your surfaces clear and keeps you from losing important papers until you have the time to sit down and give them the attention they need.
4 – Place for Keys
There’s nothing worse than hurrying to get out the door, only to realize you can’t find your keys! This goes without saying, but having a dedicated place for you keys makes a world of difference. Once you get into the habit of ALWAYS putting your keys in their spot, this pain point is solved!
5 – Phone Charging Station
I like to keep a dedicated charging station set up for my phone on both levels of our house. Putting my phone down in its spot not only helps me find it when I need it, but it encourages me to stop looking at it so frequently so that I can be more present with my family. I highly recommend setting something like this up for your phone!
6 – Place for Masks
This was new for 2020, but since we’re all needing masks these days, we might as well make our lives a little easier by setting up a designated spot for them. I have enough hooks for ours that I can also keep track of used and unused masks, so I don’t have to question whether they are clean or dirty.

This —-> You understand that some of us need the written word instead of videos when we’re trying to get information. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thanks Laura! We have some of these 6 things in our house already and I found myself nodding as I was reading – the family calendar and a place for keys definitely cut down the chaos in our house! I’m currently searching for a meal plan system that will work for our family. Thanks for all your great ideas!
